Richard McClellan is a seasoned strategy advisor with more than 20 years of experience counselling the most senior decision makers, including leadership roles at McKinsey & Company and the Tony Blair Institute. He has advised governments and major firms across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North America, with deep expertise in economic modernization, investment strategy, and governance.
Based in Vietnam for 8 years, Rich most recently served as Country Director for the Tony Blair Institute, where he worked closely with senior officials from MOF, MOIT, MOFA, and other key ministries to shape high-impact initiatives in FDI, financial markets, trade policy, and the development of Vietnam’s International Financial Centre. He has supported multilateral institutions (ADB, UNDP, IFC, GIZ), development partners, and private investors in designing and implementing large-scale reforms. He has also advised local and international companies as they integrate globally.
Richard brings a unique blend of private sector insight and public policy depth. His advisory work spans sectors such as finance, infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, and digital transformation. He is a board member at AmCham Vietnam, and a vocal advocate for ESG and governance excellence.
Richard holds an MBA from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management and a BA from Brigham Young University. He is a U.S. citizen, based in Vietnam, and actively engaged in strengthening board governance and cross-generational leadership within Vietnam’s dynamic business community.
